Club Selection Policy

The selection committee will be made up of the Director of Cricket, the captains and vice captains of the three open age NCL teams and an independent advisor and will select all teams representing Spencer Bruerne in open age cricket 1st XI, 2ndXI, 3rd XI and Friendly XI’s for 2023 season.

The objective of the committee is to be open, transparent and fair in their selection and to pick the correct team for each game to represent the club and support pathways for junior players into senior cricket. All safeguarding issues for relevant players will be considered and included in all selections.

Areas which will be CONSIDERED during selection (in no particular order): 

o Attitude – on and off the field of play o Discipline Issues 

o Potential/Development   

o Ability

o All Annual Subs have been paid  

 o Past performances

o Availability over the entire season  

o Commitment 

Final selection decisions on each team will be made between the relevant captain and Director of Cricket. For any friendly XI fixtures the selection panel will confirm the playing XI and captain.

Players can expect clear communication in advance from their captain about why they have been picked in a team and what their role for that game will be. Nobody, including captains and vice captains, is exempt from promotion or demotion. Demoted players will be notified by text or email before the teams go out. 

Teams will be picked by Tuesday evening and announced on Wednesday through Pitchero. All players must be registered on Pitchero. We request that all players must mark availability on Pitchero in advance and a minimum of 3 weeks where possible.

All selected players must confirm their selection on Pitchero BEFORE Thursday evening 7pm so all captains have clarity on their team for the weekend ahead.

Players who miss matches for whatever reason should not automatically expect to go straight back into the same team they had been in when they become available. 

The selection policy is in place to ensure everyone is aware of how selection is carried out and should help everyone get fair game time and help to enjoy the season.

All queries over selection should be made to the relevant team captain first, then the Director of Cricket and if the issues have not been resolved then finally the Club Chairman.
